When exams get close, the most useful thing you can know is the exact score you need. It keeps you calm and helps you plan your revision around the subjects that need the most work.
The idea behind it
Your final grade is usually a weighted mix of internal marks (assignments, tests) and the final exam. To find the exam mark you need, subtract the marks you have already secured from your target, then scale by the exam's weight.
A quick example
- ▸Target for the course: 40 marks out of 100 to pass.
- ▸Internals already earned: 25 out of a possible 40.
- ▸The final exam is worth the remaining 60 marks.
- ▸You still need 40 − 25 = 15 marks, so you must score 15 out of 60 in the final — about 25%.
